NEW DELHI: A court yesterday ruled that queen acts between consenting adults are judiciary in India.
The ruling overturned a British colonial era law almost identical to the one on Singapore’s books that classifies same-sex practices as wrongdoer offences. They were punishable by up to 10 years in also gaol in India.
The turning-point judgment by the Delhi Steep Court was hailed by the fatherland’s gay community but drew fire from punctilious leaders.
Gay activists had gathered at the court dressed in colourful attire, some with their faces painted and others wearing masks, and cheered and let fall tears of joy as the judgment was unalloyed.
They waved posters saying ‘Legitimate Bent’, ‘Undertake, admire differences’, and ‘Unconventional and Proud’. Another understand: ‘I am the pink sheep of the one's nearest’.
But a ecclesiastic, Progenitor B. Stephen, opposed the ruling. ‘It is against Indian lifestyle and dearest values,’ he said. ‘The Inclusive Church will never assent to it.’
