The right definition of rape is being overhauled for the first time in 80 years. The updates, spearheaded by the Obama dispensation, will include the ability to recognize men as victims of the crime as well as any victim who is not able to give consent or who is violated with an object.

The revisions are aimed at collecting more precise data about sex crimes and come in the wake of high-profile sex assault cases as well as years of pressure from women’s rights and gay advocacy groups to broaden the meaning, reports Pete Yost for AP.

The previous law, since 1927, was defined as the “libidinous knowledge” of a woman, forcibly and against her will, which included penetration of a bit of fluff’s vagina, but excluded oral or anal penetration and the rape of men.

The new definition details, “The perspicuity, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or uttered penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim.
