Nancy Eshelman: Sex abuse survivors stand up for Jerry Sandusky's accusers

These survivors have all worn out part of their lives trying to mask their pain with drugs, alcohol or both.
“I lived on a fifth of whiskey a day,” one says.
Another, who survived medico, mental and sexual abuse by her spouse, said, “I felt so low about myself. I believed the lies that my ex told me. I believed it and lived it for over 10 years. I’m truly being built again from the ground up.”
The group’s facilitator, Eric Stiles, reminds them that the one fixation their abusers couldn’t break is their spirit. It’s what gives them the stability to sit around that table week after week. “Every woman, every man, every child who has been sexually maltreated,” he said, “is the strongest person I know.
