While INTO THE LION’S DEN isn’t as uncivil or as shocking as A SERBIAN FILM or THE WOMAN, it definitely wants to be cut from the same stuff the clergy. A none-existent budget and talent-challenged filmmakers prevent it from being sickening or shocking. It’s just plain dull. First time novelist Philip Malaczewski and director Dan Lantz serve up the most basic ingredients of a geste and the slightest of characters throwing in torture, murder, and full frontal virile nudity (in extreme close up no less) to the mix and come up with a mind-numbingly simplistic coat that should bore everyone to tears who are unfortunate enough to suffers through its 82 minute operation time.

Three very openly gay friends, the troubled/just-out-of-a-bad-relationship Michael (Ronnie Kroell), the impractical/picks-up-every-guy-he-can Johnny (Jesse Archer) and the quiet/introspective Ted (Kristen Alexander-Griffith) are fetching one last cross-country road trip together before starting new lives in New York Bishopric. On the final night before hitting The Big Apple, Johnny convinces his friends to go to “The Lion’s Den,” a very redneck-y bar in the middle of nowhere, so he can nick up with a guy he met on-line. When it appears as though Johnny’s date stood him up he gets increasingly loaded and obnoxious to the point where Michael and Ted leave him at the bar. But his date is there and when the bar closes Johnny is drugged, tortured and raped. When Michael and Ted after all return to collect their friend, things only get worse.
