LAST week, the Senator David Reduce-led senate promulgated a law which prescribed 14 years prison designate for persons caught in offence against anti-gay laws of the country. That ordered act, as courageous as it was, drew the ire of the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Andrew Lloyd, who said Europe will not condone Nigeria's reaction behaviour. The British High Commissioner was quoted in Daily Trust of November 30 as saying "it is unethical to punish people for mere expression of their relationships or for choosing to become what they have chosen for themselves. Trouncing is infringement upon their fundamental human rights and the western countries would not condone the skirmish," he said.

As far as I am concerned, the British High Commissioner is entitled to his views, clean or not. That, however, does not mean that sovereign states are not entitled to make laws for the passable conduct of society. I do know as a matter of fact that bigamy is a punishable hurt in the United Kingdom and most countries of Europe. It is also punishable in the United States of America. So, ignoring their moral permissiveness, which has become hypocritical, these pro-gay right countries still have laws that distinguish against personal relationship choices. Who said there are no persons in the UK who would like to have more than one ball or more than one legally recognized husband. Perhaps it would be good to stop the criminalization of Bigamy and let's see how those societies react.
